I am a rather unusual artist in that I have always explored media and in some ways I cannot be associated with any 1 form, craft, or style in art. I have chosen to learn and play with new and burgeoning technology and media, stay informed of critical theory and debate in fine-art and visual culture and the underpinning psychological and behavioural processes that allow us to enjoy, learn from and appreciate, the arts. My background is not straightforward emerging from a dysfunctional and unsupportive family, I failed school, picked up a guitar and became a carpenter; self sufficient at 16.
I have worked extensively as a Lecturer (professor) of Fine-Art and my last contracted role was as Head of Moving Image BA(hons), Contemporary Art Practice at Robert Gordon University. I have made commitments to teach and support the in many contexts including special needs, exclusion and I provided services and advice as a special advisor for Scottish Film Education, and a consultant and mentor across film, art, education. I have tried to balance my own creating with my contracted and academic work (at my own expense) maintaining an independent studio based practice and the freedom to accept new challenges. and have I have collaborated with professional music producers, film development agencies and creative organisations both as an artist and a consultant or mentor. I have exhibited some of my internationally but not for some years.
